tANGEA BEACH HOUSE

Rosedale NSW

An unbuilt project, this beach house is perched on a rocky cliff set in front of a secluded beach in a coastal town in southern NSW. The beach house is comprised of two pavilions, public and private, the northern pavilion for living and entertaining whilst the southern pavilion accommodates the sleeping quarters. These pavilions take advantage of two disparate environmental narratives, one that explores exposure and openness and the other exploring shelter and intimacy. The northern pavilion faces the beach, exposed to the elements and welcoming the openness and atmosphere of the beautiful coastline whilst the southern pavilion is nestled into the rocky outcrops to the south, creating a more protected and intimate series of spaces. The architecture celebrates the complexity and beauty of nature as every space directs attention to particular features of the site and also to the natural world beyond its boundaries.
